2018 Puerto Rico Classic, Dec. 19 – 21 | Fan Package

Basketball competitions are back in Puerto Rico! As the U.S. commonwealth continues to recover from 2017’s Hurricane Maria, tournaments return to the picturesque Caribbean island including STI’s Puerto Rico Classic.

The field for the event includes:

·         Grambling State

·         South Dakota

·         Loyola Marymount

·         Indiana

These four teams enter the season with a bevy of preseason honors. Grambling State is the favorite to win the SWAC title this season. The team includes senior guard Shakyla Hill who last season became only the fourth-ever NCAA women's basketball player to record a quadruple double

South Dakota is second in the Summit League preseason poll and has two celebrated players who average double figures: junior guard Ciara Duffy and senior guard Allison Arens.

Loyola Marymount is already making waves nationally as the Lions stunned fans on the first day of the regular season with a victory over top ten team UCLA.

Big Ten school Indiana gets back in the swing of things after winning the WNIT championship last season and starting things off this fall with two straight victories.

Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic, Dec. 20-22 | Tickets

Each team comes from a different conference providing the tournament with a diverse cross-section of programs that fans may not get to see play during the regular season. With Fairfield traveling from New England to UTEP coming in from southwest Texas, the teams also vary widely in their geographic locations.

Three tournament teams have brand new coaches this season. Melissa Jackson takes over at Akron. Tomekia Reed is the new coach at Jackson State. Tasha Pointer begins her tenure at UIC. In addition, this season marks just the second year at the hem of UTEP for Kevin Baker.
