Sport Tours to Host 13 Teams Internationally

Thirteen college basketball teams.  Five countries.  Three continents.  39 games. Very little sleep.  In a nutshell, this is the month of August for the staff at Sport Tours International (STI).

Beginning Aug. 3rd and ending Aug. 23rd a record thirteen basketball teams will be travelling outside of the U.S. with STI.  Among the thirteen teams are nine D1 men’s teams, two D1 women’s teams, one D3 women’s team and one D3 men’s team.  The diversity of teams and locations are what makes August so special for STI.

Xavier University is the first team to travel as the Musketeer men head to Brazil Aug. 3rd-12th.  Xavier will play three games in Rio de Janeiro against top club competition. Kennesaw State Men’s Basketball is one of three teams traveling to Italy as KSU departs Aug. 5th and returns Aug. 14th.  They will be joined in Italy by the Cleveland State (Aug. 10th-19th) and Emory and Henry College women’s basketball teams (Aug. 11th-20th).  All three teams will start their trip in northern Italy near Venice before working their ways south to Florence and ending in Rome.

The Central American nation of Costa Rica continues to be a desired travel spot for teams as four basketball teams will spend a week in the spectacular country.  The Georgia State University men’s team will head to San Jose, Costa Rica Aug. 7th-14th, while the Wofford College men travel Aug. 9th-13th.  A third Division I men’s team will play the Costa Rican locals when Prairie View A&M departs Aug. 9th with an Aug. 17th return.  Finally, the Indiana State University women’s team will spend a week in Costa Rica beginning Aug. 9th.  The Costa Rica trip is a great experience, as teams not only play games versus local club teams but also go whitewater rafting, zip lining in the jungle canopy, enjoy the beach, and participate in service projects with local youth.

Two Division I men’s teams will spend time in Canada in August as Indiana University will play five games in the world-class city of Montreal.  IPFW will play three times during a five-night trip to Toronto.  The Hoosiers will head to the French-speaking city in Quebec Aug. 7th and will return Aug. 13th after playing five competitive games versus high-level university teams in Montreal.  IPFW will fit in a trip to Niagara Falls and Wasaga Beach in between its three games against Canadian college squads.

Sport Tours will then round out the August tour season with three teams travelling to the Bahamas.  Morehead State University will spend time on Paradise Island Aug. 8th-13th and will play three games in the growing “Summer of Thunder” event in the capital city of Nassau.  Louisiana Tech will follow a similar schedule Aug. 17th-22nd and will be joined at the Atlantis resort by Whitman College, who will travel from Washington Aug. 18th-23rd.
